The transformation to a sustainable economy affects our clients and us equally. We want to actively shape this transformation. On the one hand, we empower our clients in their sustainable transformation. To this end, we are further expanding our range of innovative, environmentally friendly products. On the other hand, we accelerate the bank transformation. To this end, we are committed to set a good example with our own banking operations and steadily reduce our CO2 emissions.
In 2019, Commerzbank singed the Principles for Responsible Banking initiated by UNEP FI and committed itself to support the real economy in its transformation. With our Net Zero commitment, we are now taking an important and consistent step forward.
We have set ourselves ambitious targets for the implementation of our strategy:

As one of the first financial institutions worldwide, we are committed to reduce our CO2 balance sheet to net zero by 2050 at the latest. This applies to the bank's entire lending and investment portfolio. By voluntarily committing to net zero, the Bank underlines its decisiveness to actively contribute to the sustainable transformation of society and the economy. In April 2021, we therefore also joined the Net-Zero Banking Alliance of UNEP FI.

We want to reduce the emissions of our own banking operations to zero already by 2040. In addition, we have set ourselves the goal of having a 100% climate-neutral supplier portfolio by 2040.

The transformation to a sustainable economy requires huge investments. To support our customers in their transformation, we are steadily expanding our range to sustainable products. To this end, we are committing to mobilise more than 300 billion Euros for the sustainable transformation by 2025. The products included in this volume target have in common that they are fundamentally sustainable, i.e. that they have a sustainable purpose or are linked to sustainable criteria. We use a detailed framework to make transparent which products we classify as "sustainable".
