The lack of equality in education is one of our society's major problems. Many young people in Germany leave school without any qualifications. At the start of their adult life they often find themselves unemployed.

Our education mentor programme aims to address precisely this problem. Since 2013, bank employees have been providing support to young people in danger of dropping out of school, who cannot find a training place or who might not complete their training. Education mentors guide their protégés for a year, show them new horizons and help them to recognise their strengths and develop self-confidence. The education mentor is a kind of coach who acts as an advisor outside the young person's normal school and training environment.

The programme started in 2013. Currently a maximum of 60 education mentors can get involved at 29 locations in ten federal states. Due to the excellent response the programme was expanded in 2016 to the federal states Rheinland-Pfalz and Sachsen-Anhalt. Different active local youth initiatives have been chosen as partners for the programme.

Commerzbank's education mentor programme contributes to equality of access to education in Germany and provides another opportunity for employees to become volunteers.
