Survey of the FINANCE magazine on a potential takeover of Commerzbank
CFOs and treasurers remain highly sceptical
05/19/2026
For the third year in a row, FINANCE magazine has conducted an independent survey in 2026 on a potential takeover of Commerzbank by UniCredit. As in the previous two years, the results clearly confirm that German financial decision-makers remain sceptical about such a transaction. The key question asked was: “In general, how do you assess the potential takeover of Commerzbank by UniCredit?”
The response from more than 200 companies surveyed is once again unambiguous:
- The German corporate sector is clearly in favour of an independent Commerzbank and therefore rejects a hostile takeover of Commerzbank by UniCredit.
- 71% of financial decision-makers at companies in Germany rate the potential takeover of Commerzbank as negative or even very negative.
- Among Commerzbank corporate clients, this share rises to 77%.
