Are you ready for an exciting, varied and hands-on experience in shaping the future of modern banking? Then you’ve come to the right place! From specialist to generalist programmes, we have a wide range of options for you to prove yourself as a talented and proactive person. You can choose between lots of exciting areas, including HR, IT, Audit, Compliance and Risk – and lots more. Our range of graduate trainee programmes will let you kickstart your career in a way that suits you. You can find more detailed information about the content and specifications of our programmes in our job postings. Each programme lasts 12 to 18 months. During this time, you’ll have numerous opportunities to learn how we work as a bank while immersing yourself in different areas, building your own network and taking part in our events for graduate trainees. You’ll also be able to work abroad at one of our international locations. And that’s not all. As a graduate trainee, you’ll be a pay-scale employee with a permanent employment contract.

Graduate trainee programmes at a glance

In Audit, the focus is on the independent and risk-oriented monitoring of processes and business transactions. You’ll look at various issues, such as the different types of compliance risks, including money laundering, sanctions and corruption. In this area, you’ll support the management team in conducting systematic and targeted assessments to verify whether the company’s risk management, internal control system and business processes are effective and fit for purpose. As part of the programme, you’ll also have the opportunity to provide on-site support to our colleagues abroad. You’ll also take part in various introductory seminars, qualification courses and specialist seminars to get off to the best possible start in your future role! Dive into the world of regulation, legal advice and internal auditing. You’ll help us ensure that everything goes to plan and that we stay on track!

In Product Management and Digitalisation, you’ll play an active role in developing our products, banking systems and IT platforms for our customers. You’ll use agile working methods to deliver products quickly and efficiently in a multicultural team. You’ll enhance our products and services or develop new products in areas such as trade finance and cash management. Our teams form a link between areas such as sales and settlement units. Depending on your position, your tasks may include designing and creating sales communications related to certain products and topics or working on exciting digitalisation projects and innovative customer solutions (e.g. for mobile banking, big data and lots more). You’ll also have the opportunity to gain further experience during a stay abroad. During your graduate trainee programme, you’ll be able to take a look behind the scenes in a variety of ways and play an active role in developing and optimising our specialist products. Your creative ideas and strategic vision will be essential here.

In Finance, Controlling and Tax, you’ll get to know various exciting tasks and areas – your assignments will be planned with us to suit your needs. The areas include Group Finance: the accounting and controlling teams for the integrated management of all the group’s financial resources. Group Investor Relations: the centre of excellence for the bank’s successful capital market communications. Group Tax: the experts for all the group’s tax affairs and projects. And Group Treasury: the division that manages the bank’s investment and liquidity matters. You’ll also have the opportunity to work abroad at one of our international locations. Hardly any other company can offer you more comprehensive insights into financial management than a listed bank! You won’t just be getting to know the different areas – you’ll also be able to attend additional specialist seminars to broaden your expertise. Take a deep dive into the world of finance with us.

In HR and Communications, you’ll get to know various areas of responsibility. In Human Resources, you’ll take a look at operational HR affairs or gain insights into strategic and conceptual HR work. Your tasks may include advising specialists and managers or designing and managing our benefits. The implementation of further training courses and the development of our HR strategy are also part of the diverse tasks in this area.
In Communications, you’ll refine our internal and external communications and improve Commerzbank’s reputation among its stakeholders in the long term. During your graduate trainee programme, your responsibilities could include, for example, financial or board communications, channel management with various digital communication channels, media relations and event management. Your creative ideas will be essential here. You’ll also have the opportunity to work abroad at one of our international locations.

In IT, you have the chance to look into various areas of the bank and expand your knowledge. Our IT matters are managed in our delivery organisation, where you’ll be able to contribute your ideas to solve complex challenges. Your responsibilities could include software development and the development of cloud infrastructures. But that’s not all. You can choose your own practical phases in all IT areas to boost your professional and personal development and lay the foundations for your career. Together we’ll focus on the units and products that interest you. You’ll be supported by experienced colleagues as part of a mentoring scheme. Over the course of 18 months, you’ll have numerous opportunities to get to know us as a bank. You’ll also have the opportunity to work abroad at one of our international locations.

In Risk, Credit and Financing, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of one of our global customers through future lending decisions. We find it important that you get to know all the cogs in the machine during your time as a graduate trainee. That’s why you’ll gain extensive insights into various departments of our bank. Your analysis will be the key to sustainable growth. Depending on your specific graduate trainee programme, your tasks may include preparing new and existing loan applications, demonstrating your modelling skills and conducting risk assessments for companies in different industries. Our focus is on you, so we’ll ensure that you gain a deep understanding of the risk management of our financial markets during your rotations!

In Operations and Organisation, you’ll get to know different areas of responsibility and play an active role in developing our bank. From day one, you’ll take responsibility for your own fields of interest such as developing solutions to optimise processes and internal processes or implementing various governance measures. You’ll be largely responsible for planning measures to optimise and develop processes and resolve customer concerns. You can also contribute to strategic development within the COO division. In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to acquire methods and tools for process analysis and improvement and to implement those tools together as a team.
In Organisation, your areas of responsibility could include managing local changes, especially in space and relocation management, and supporting the group strategy through active real estate management. You’ll also work alongside your team in administering various authorisation management systems and applications that control the bank’s information security. Your organisational talent and foresight will be essential here. You’ll also have the opportunity to work abroad at one of our international locations. During the programme, you’ll have the chance to attend specialist seminars and take on practical assignments, allowing you to continuously expand your knowledge.

In Strategy and Sustainability, you’ll redefine the world of finance. You’ll be welcomed into the team from the very beginning, helping us shape the group’s cross-divisional strategy and sustainability management. Depending on your programme, your tasks may include preparing market, company and competition analyses, identifying the need for changes and outlining possible solutions, as well as developing and reporting on our sustainability efforts for our stakeholders and other target groups. You’ll work with your team to develop strategic guidelines on sustainability issues and other topics. You’ll use your analytical strengths and regularly create sound and detailed documents for internal and external stakeholders. You’ll identify trends and developments relevant to Commerzbank and use that information with your team to present recommendations for action to the Board of Managing Directors. You’ll also have the opportunity to work abroad at one of our international locations. During the programme, you’ll have the chance to attend specialist seminars and take on practical assignments, allowing you to continuously expand your knowledge.

In Sales, Investments and Transactions, you’ll have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with our products and learn how our demanding business is managed across the group. During your time as a graduate trainee, you’ll gain deep insights into various units and areas – from sales to operations, from strategy to project work, from customer service to project management. You’ll find exactly what’s right for you! During your graduate trainee programme, your areas of responsibility could include, for example, relationship, investment and asset management or the bond business. To prepare for your upcoming tasks, we’ll provide you with suitable qualification courses right from the start.

Salary
Your annual salary will start from € 61,800 with a bachelor’s degree and € 67,600 with a master’s degree.
