  • Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall riots of 1969 and the ongoing struggle of the queer community against discrimination and hatred.
  • Commerzbank demonstrates its support by illuminating its Frankfurt tower in rainbow colors and participating in several CSD (Pride) parades together with ARCO, its Pride employee resource group.

Pride Month begins today: it serves as a reminder of how important equal rights, acceptance and a life free from discrimination are for all people – regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Pride Month traces its origins back to the uprisings in June 1969 in New York City, when queer people at the "Stonewall Inn" bar on Christopher Street stood up against arbitrariness and discrimination for the first time. Since then, Christopher Street Days (CSD) have been held worldwide to celebrate the rights that have been won and to draw attention to ongoing injustices. "In view of the fact that hatred and attacks on queer people are increasing, it is all the more important for us to take a visible stand against this and to give the queer community a voice," says Fiona Brisco, Head of Diversity, Inclusion & Health Management.

With its motto "Loud together. Because you count.", Commerzbank is sending a clear message of support for queer people inside and outside the Bank. "As Team Yellow, we are committed to a society in which everyone can be who they are," emphasises Matthias Füssel, (Human Resources Divisional Board). "We stand for community and solidarity and raise our voices for one another."

As a visible sign, Commerzbank will illuminate its tower in Frankfurt in rainbow colours throughout Pride Month and will adapt its logo accordingly. Together with ARCO, the Bank’s Pride employee resource group, Commerzbank and comdirect will also be represented in July and August at the CSD demonstrations in Frankfurt, Berlin and Hamburg with their own truck, and in Magdeburg with a walking group. "Especially at a time when extremes are gaining strength, it is important to us to take a clear stance. We stand for diversity and respect," says Tino Weigelt, member of the ARCO board. The Pride network, whose name alludes to "rainbow", has been working for an open and diverse working environment since its founding in 2002.
