From school internship to audit specialist – building a career where opportunities are a big deal
This is where success starts early: still a school student, she enters Commerzbank for the first time – actually “only” for an internship. But that first glimpse turns into a genuine passion for banking.
The next step? A vocational training programme in retail banking. This is where she lays the foundations: customer contact, financial knowledge, responsibility. Instead of standing still, she keeps moving: after completing her training, she starts as a customer service adviser, studies in parallel, and switches to the corporate client business as a working student. Suddenly it’s all about companies, strategies, growth and banking on a new level. And because careers here are also thought of internationally, her path takes her to Singapore for three months to join the audit team. A different culture, different perspectives, the same employer.
Back in Germany, the next career step follows: trainee in Internal Audit. Here she sharpens her analytical thinking, gains an understanding of complex bank-wide processes and gets to know Commerzbank from the inside – across divisions, topics and locations. The next milestone: her role as a specialist in Internal Audit.
Internal Audit Specialist
From chef to business expert – when you take your future into your own hands
"If you’re not happy with the present, then shape your future – because you can’t change the past." Hardly anyone lives by this saying as consistently as Björn. His success story at Commerzbank begins in 2005 – not in an office, but in the kitchen: as a chef in the executive casino in Frankfurt.
With Commerzbank’s support, he completes his master chef qualification between 2010 and 2013, then represents the bank for years as an IHK examiner, contributing far beyond the confines of the kitchen. But Björn doesn’t stop there. In 2016, he takes the next step: moving into casino management. There he is responsible, on a project basis, for introducing ComRaum, the room reservation tool, and serves as the contact person for all representative meeting rooms at headquarters. In 2018, he takes on professional responsibility for all casino cash desks across Germany – working closely with the cluster on further developments, updates and administrative matters.
In 2022, the big leap follows: Björn moves into IT. As a business specialist, he supports and further develops IT applications. Today, he is a business expert for services related to ticketing, with many interfaces to internal processes and external partners. For him, it is still sometimes hard to grasp. Yet his story shows what is possible when a company offers opportunities – and you have the courage to seize them.
Björn says: if this isn’t a success story, he doesn’t know what is. He is proud to have changed his life so fundamentally. And he is convinced: without Commerzbank, its training opportunities and its openness to unconventional CVs, this journey would not have been possible in this way.

For Sandra, success doesn’t mean titles or status. Success means being able to do what you love – with people who inspire you and in an environment that rewards courage. That’s exactly how she has lived her career at Commerzbank for over ten years: from intern to leader.
It all started with a simple decision: an internship at Commerzbank, because she was convinced by the people, the culture and the way colleagues work together. What began as "getting a first impression" turned into a long-term career path – in topics she enjoys and in an environment where she likes to work. As a trainee, she dives deep into the digital world: projects for Commerzbank, comdirect and mBank. Here she learns what success really means to her: it’s when her contribution creates tangible added value for the team and the bank. Not just ticking off tasks, but making a real difference.
As a Product Owner, she took on responsibility for large, innovative projects. The key to success? A strong sense of "we". She experiences first-hand how much is possible when you recognise each individual’s strengths, nurture them and work together towards a shared goal.
Today, as a leader, that’s exactly where she starts: for her, the perfect CV on paper matters less than attitude and motivation. For her, success is courage. Courage to ask questions, learn new things, try things out and bring others along on that journey.

Success through drive, team spirit and athletic perseverance
For Louis, success isn’t luck or coincidence – it means keeping at it, with real willpower, clear goals and the mindset of a competitive athlete. On the field, it’s not just strength that counts, but stamina, discipline, team spirit and the ability to get back up after every setback. This is exactly the attitude Louis brings into his everyday life and his journey at Commerzbank: focused, reliable and determined to always do his best.
You can see that rugby is more than just a hobby for Louis from the fact that, after school, he actually considered going to New Zealand to play rugby there – a big opportunity and a clear sign of his athletic potential. In the end, however, he decides to complete his Abitur. Afterwards, he works in a café, gains experience, travels and realises how important people and communication are to him. Banking moves into focus, and he already knows Commerzbank through his family. He applies to several institutions, but consciously chooses Commerzbank, with the international aspect being the deciding factor.
His path is not straightforward: comprehensive school, dyslexia, major hurdles when it comes to reading. But Louis doesn’t respond to these challenges with excuses – he meets them with sporting ambition. He learns to deal with his dyslexia, to recognise mistakes and grow from them – just like in rugby, where every move, every contact and every setback is a chance to come back stronger.
One of his biggest highlights is the offer from Commerzbank, which reached him while he was on holiday. That was the moment he realised how far he had come. For him, success is a big goal made up of many small steps: one day starting a family, being able to provide for them and being content with what he does.
Louis repeatedly shows what defines him: the ability to stick with things and not stand still. When something doesn’t work out right away, he looks for support, accepts challenges and reminds himself that perseverance pays off. His advice: always give 110 percent – then you can be proud that you gave it your all. Louis finds motivation in his training above all in those moments when customers leave with a smile because his advice has genuinely helped them. Day after day, Louis proves that athleticism for him goes far beyond physical strength: it is an attitude, discipline and the will to get back up again and again.
From young mother to high achiever – success through attitude, heart and perseverance
For Sema, success doesn’t mean having the "perfect" CV. Success means sticking with it – with a child, with responsibility and with the determination to walk her own path. That’s exactly how she lives her career at Commerzbank: not average, but courageous, consistent and authentic.
At 28, with a previous career as an entrepreneur and as the mum of a little daughter, she consciously decides to step on the gas again professionally. She shows that you don’t have to fit the classic mould to be successful. You have to get into action. For her, it’s not only the big goals that count, but every stage along the way.
One of her greatest challenges: completing an accelerated training programme. Catching up on the last school block independently, studying for exams in parallel and persevering despite setbacks. Especially during this time, she learns what success means to her: it means carrying on when things get tough. When something doesn’t work out, she gets back up and takes the next step.
Her motto: don’t overthink, just do. Don’t analyse everything too much. Sema relies on simplicity, clarity and consistency. She draws motivation from her own mindset – most of the time, she is the one who pulls others along, supports and encourages them.
