Sustainability Sustainability

The sustainability principle also strictly applies to Commerzbank's relationship with its service providers and suppliers. An externally certified environmental and energy management system that meets the ISO standards 14001 and 50001 is in place at Commerzbank. It helps Commerzbank to continuously improve its own sustainability performance, not least also when it comes to its sourcing decisions in procurement. The standard for sustainable procurement and the code of conduct define binding rules for the ecological, social and ethical aspects that must be taken into account when procuring goods and services. In procurement projects, Commerzbank's Corporate Procurement department also contributes towards the achievement of the sustainability goals that have been defined by selecting ecological products and environmentally conscious suppliers.

Commerzbank's supplier management system also involves questioning its suppliers about typical sustainability aspects (for example about the recycling quota of their products). Commerzbank not only expects its direct suppliers to make every effort to meet certain environmental and social standards but also expects the same from their downstream suppliers. Commerzbank's corporate responsibility does not only extend to its internal processes but beyond these to the entire supply chain.
