Transaction Overview

The transaction overview shows the transactions of your different accounts and credit cards within a period of up to 12 months. This feature includes current accounts, securities accounts, investment accounts, like overnight, money accounts and credit cards. Furthermore you have the opportunity to create a file with the on-screen information and save it in different file formats or print it.

Select the account

A foldout menu, which includes every available account for the transaction overview, is located in the top line. Please select the favored account by using the slider bar and the appropriate transactions will be loaded.

The current balance of the selected account is shown directly below the selection menu for the accounts. If the selected account contains any recent SEPA transactions that were initiated online, those transactions will be shown in “Outstanding Transactions” and included in the total balance of the account. If the displayed balance includes “Outstanding Transactions”, a note will appear below the balance. When transferring between your accounts, the credit as well as the debit is shown in the transaction list and effect the balance of the respective account.

If an inland/SEPA transfer to another account has been captured in the current account online, only the debit is taken into account.

The current balance of the selected account is shown directly below the selection menu for the accounts. If there are any upcoming dated transfers or standing orders for the selected account within the next 5 days, these will be displayed as one amount within the group “Next 5 Days” in the transaction list of the selected account.

The different views

You can choose between three different views of your transaction list, which can be activated with the three icons to the right of the account selection.

Transaction list

The default set transaction list shows you all transactions within the chosen period grouped by the date. By clicking at the date of an individual transaction, you will get more detailed information about the selected booking. You can get a form that contains information about the individual transaction by clicking on the button “PDF”. This file can either be printed or saved.

Detailed Transaction List

If you choose the Detailed Transaction List, all additional information on every transaction will be displayed automatically.

Incomes & Expenditures

When choosing this view, the incomes and expenditures within the selected period are compared and shown in a chart. Transactions shown in the groups “Next 5 Days” and “Outstanding Transactions” are not taken into account in the incomes & expenditures view.

Set a filter

For a better structure and a faster search for certain transactions there are different filters in the Transaction Overview.

Period of time

The drop-down list “Period of time” is located on top of the transaction list. You can enter a period of time from „Since last Login“ to „12 Months“ for the displayed transactions.

Furthermore you have the opportunity to define the period of time for the requested transactions even more precise to the right of the drop-down list. Just enter two dates to define the period, or choose the starting date and the end date from the appearing calendar.

Extended Search

Below the line for setting the period of time you can improve the search with the tool “Extended Search“.

  • Search term: With this feature you can search for relevant transactions, if you know parts of the individual transaction´s term.
  • Amount from/to: If you know the amount of the searched for transaction, you can limit the results to transactions within a certain range.
  • Plus/Minus: If both boxes are marked, you are looking for credits (plus) and debits (minus) in your account. If you know, whether the searched for amount is in your favor or at your expense, you can mark the correct box.

The extended search is exclusively made for booked transactions, so transactions shown in the groups “Next 5 Days” and “Outstanding Transactions” are not taken into account in this search.

Filter within the transaction list

The list, that shows the transactions, offers you additional options for arrangement. By selecting one of the words in the top row “Date”, “Category” and “Amount”, each of them can be shown in ascending and descending order. Please note that only one filter at a time can be active. The transactions in the groups “Next 5 Days” and “Outstanding Orders” are always displayed at the top of the transaction list.

  • Category: Users of the Finance Manager can organize the transactions by categories, in alphabetic order from A to Z or from Z to A.

Depending on the selected product (account or credit card) or on the use of the Finance Manager, the information per transaction differs slightly from each other.

Following information is displayed for account transactions:

Date: The booking date of the transaction in your Commerzbank account.

The small arrow ahead of the date opens the detailed view of the transaction.

The transactions stated as “Next 5 Days” are expected to be credited to/debited from your account. It is possible that further outstanding transactions exist for your account.

The balance shown next to the “Outstanding Orders” takes SEPA transactions into account that have been initiated in the online banking and will be credited/debited from your account.

Transaction type: Type of transaction, e.g. direct debit

As long as the Finance Manager is deactivated, you can see the transaction types (and not the categories).

Only if the Finance Manager is activated, you can see the categories in the transaction overview page (instead of transaction types).

For example, if you buy food and clothes at the supermarket, you can assign the appropriate amount to the category “Clothing”. The original transaction remains in the Transaction Overview, but the division can be seen in the tab “Analyses”.

Category graphics: A small graphic of your revenues and expenditures of the last three months in one category can be seen in transaction details. The graphic refers to the last three fully completed calendar months. For example, on 24.09.2014, the graphic shows the incomes and expenditures of June, July and August. The transactions in the groups “Next 5 Days” and “Outstanding Transactions” are not taken into account.

Following information is offered for credit card transactions:

How do I get detailed information on a transaction?

Initially, only the first line of the transaction data is shown. To the left of each transaction date you find a small arrow, which can show you more information.

Generally, every transaction can be displayed in short form or in detailed form by using the fold out layer.

Is my data secure?

Yes. The Finance Manager is integrated into the online banking system of Commerzbank and complies with the same very high security standards.

Please inform yourself here about Online Banking Security.

For the user of the Finance Manager:

When does the Finance Manager categorize my transactions automatically?

For the automatic categorization of your transactions, you have to log out from the online banking after you activated the Finance Manager.

In case you have already made alterations to the Finance Manager, those will not be saved.

Only when you log in next time into your online banking the transactions will be categorized automatically. This may take a few minutes, depending on the number of accounts and processed transactions.

How does the automatic categorization of transactions work?

The Finance Manager assigns your transactions automatically to one of 16 categories and about 90 subcategories. The sender parameters and information in the details of the transactions serve as a basis for the categorization.

If needed, you can assign the transactions to other categories manually. The system will learn from your individual assignments and adopt them automatically over time.

Can I change the categorization of my transactions by myself?

Yes. You can easily change the pre-set categories later, so the analysis complies as accurately as possible with your personal spending behavior.

For manual assignments open the Transaction Overview or alternatively the detailed view. Please click on the small arrow next to the category of the transaction that you want to change and the category menu will be opened. Now you can choose your desired category.

How do I categorize my Commerzbank credit card payment?

Your individual credit card transactions are automatically assigned to the pre-set categories. At the transaction page you can select the credit card account and see its transactions.

Hint: In order that your monthly credit card payment is not included as additional expense in your analysis, you should assign the transaction to the category “Exclude from Analysis” – “Credit Card Payment”.

How do I handle credit card debit transactions from other companies?

If your Commerzbank account serves as clearing account of your credit card from another company, you can split the credit card debit transaction into different amounts and assign them to individual categories.

More details at “What does Split transactions mean?”. Excluding the transaction with the category “Exclude from Analysis” is not necessary.

How do I create a rule?

Please open the Transaction Overview and click at the pen icon. A window appears, that shows the option “Create rule”.

Or alternatively you can open the settings and click the button „Create rule“.

You can enter the payee and sender data as well as information on the purpose in the field next to the posting text.

You want to use your rule not only for upcoming but for existing transactions?

Then just select “Apply this rule to all existing transactions with corresponding criteria”

When is a new rule useful to me?

Creating a rule is suggested, if you want to categorize recurrent transactions individually.

Example: You always transfer a fixed amount of money to a person with the purpose „Babysitting“. Now you can create a new rule that assigns those payments automatically to the category “childcare”.

What does Split transactions mean?

You can split a transaction into two or more amounts and assign those to multiple categories. For example you can split a withdrawal into different categories, depending on what you have spent the money on.

The original transaction remains in the Transaction Overview, you can see the division in the Analysis.
