Dresden Cultural Foundation of Dresdner Bank

Dresden Cultural Foundation of Dresdner Bank

Since it was established in 1991, the Dresden Cultural Foundation of Dresdner Bank has worked on strengthening the identity of the state capital of Saxony. It supports projects and initiatives in the areas of art, culture and science, monument protection and conservation. Also the Foundation is particularly involved in the aesthetic-cultural education of young people in Dresden and fosters ideas to further enhance a democratic polity.

By setting up the Dresden Cultural Foundation of Dresdner Bank, the former Dresdner Bank gave expression to its close association with the city where it launched its business activities in 1872. Following the merger of Dresdner Bank with Commerzbank in May 2009, Commerzbank became the legal successor to Dresdner Bank.

The Cultural Foundation is an independent legal entity. The Frankfurt-based Foundation has capital of approximately EUR 8 million. Around EUR 245,000 are available for projects in 2014. The Foundation is active on both a promotional and operating basis. It provides financial support for existing initiatives, but also creates impetus for new projects and develops its own concepts, which are then realised in cooperation with partners.

Once a year, the Board of Trustees of the Dresden Cultural Foundation of Dresdner Bank selects the projects which will be supported in the following year.
