Commerzbank fund receives FNG label for sustainable investment fund (3 December 2018)

The fund "Commerzbank Global Stocks - Catholic Values" corresponds to the quality standard for sustainable investment in German-speaking countries, developed by the Forum Nachhaltige Geldanlagen (FNG). The fund received the FNG label with two stars. It was able to improve its evaluation in the area of dialogue strategy, meaning its engagement with the companies it invests in. The fund receives the FNG label for the third time in a row, but for the first time with two stars. A total of 66 funds in Germany, Austria and Switzerland have received a FNG label for 2019.

Commerzbank awarded for commitment to equal opportunities (5 November 2018)

For the eight time Commerzbank received the Total-E-Quality Award for its successful commitment to equal opportunities and for the second time the "add-on Diversity" for its exemplary diversity management. This year the Bank receives this award, amongst other things, for the increase of the share of women in management positions, the formulation of its action plan for inclusion of people with disabilities, as well as the expansion of employee networks. more

Apply now for an environmental internship in 2019 (1 November 2018)

In 2019, Commerzbank will once more enable up to 75 students from all disciplines to work as interns for several months at participating national parks, nature reserves and biosphere reserves throughout Germany. The closing date for applications is 15 January 2019. more

Commerzbank issues inaugural green bond (17 October 2018)

On 16 October 2018 Commerzbank issued its inaugural green bond in the capital market, which attracted keen investor interest. The issue raised €500 million, with a term of 5 years. The final order book had a volume of €1.1bn. The Bank will use the proceeds to refinance renewable energy projects for onshore and offshore wind projects and solar projects in Germany, other European countries, and North and South America. more

Less paper – and the forest profits twice (8 October 2018)

Since October 2018 Commerzbank plants one square meter of forest in Germany for every switch to an electronic mailbox in online banking, starting in Baden-Baden in the Northern Black Forest. Together, the Bank and its customers thus save natural resources, reduce harmful CO2 emissions and support the preservation of German forests. more

The end of single use coffee cups (1 October 2018)

Commerzbank banishes paper cups at all beverage dispensers throughout Germany. Locations in Frankfurt with cafeterias will give up single use cups for coffee to go and other hot beverages from 1st October 2018, as in the headquarters alone 1.3 million paper cups were used in 2017. On a national level the cup will disappear on 1st November and will be replaced by environmentally friendly reusable cups. Many Commerzbank employees had previously expressed their support for this step in the Intranet. With this Commerzbank fulfils one of its approximately 100 goals of its sustainability programme, which envisaged a nationwide transition to environmentally friendly coffee cups by 2018.

Earth observer receives “Leopoldina Early Career Award 2018“ from the Commerzbank Foundation (21 September 2018)

Prof. Dr. Xiaoxiang Zhu, a scientist at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and professor for signal processing in Earth observation at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), has received the “Leopoldina Early Career Award 2018” of 30.000 Euros. The German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina thus honours her for her outstanding achievements in using satellite-based remote sensing in the recording of worldwide urbanization and natural hazards. The award ceremony took place during the annual meeting of Leopoldina on 21 September 2018 in Halle (Saale). The award is supported by the Commerzbank Foundation. more

Commerzbank shows #FlaggefürVielfalt (10 September 2018)

A workspace free of prejudice and shaped by mutual respect and acceptance is the fundamental requirement for the success of a company. Amongst others, Commerzbank participates in the campaign #FlaggefürVielfalt (flag for diversity), which was initiated by the Diversity Charter, thus pledging itself to diversity and tolerance in the company. The Bank has been a signatory of the charter since 2008. more

Commerzbank Foundation awards Staatsschauspiel Dresden with ZukunftsGut prize (12 September 2018)

The prize for institutional cultural mediation, which was announced for the first time during the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 and is worth EUR 80,000, was awarded in Frankfurt am Main on 12 September 2018. The first prize-winner is Staatsschauspiel (state theater) Dresden. It received EUR 50,000 for its pioneering role in the concept of the Bürgerbühne (citizens' theater). The second and third places went to the Historical Museum in Frankfurt and Theater Oberhausen. In future, the prize will be awarded every two years. more

Declaration of conformity to Sustainability Code (10 September 2018)

Commerzbank has again committed to comply with the German Sustainability Code (Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitskodex DNK). The twenty criteria and additional performance indicators in the DNK describe the essential requirements for corporate sustainability and enable the sustainability performances of participating companies to be compared. more

Green and Sustainable Finance Cluster Germany publishes Baseline-Report (24 August 2018)

The Green and Sustainable Finance Cluster Germany publishes its first inventory with a baseline report. In addition to an analysis of sustainable activities in Frankfurt and other European financial centers, the importance of sustainability issues in companies was also examined. The report is the first publication of the cluster created in the spring of 2018, whose goal is to mobilize the financial sector more for climate protection and sustainable investment. Commerzbank signs UN Women's Empowerment Principles (10 August 2018)

CEO Martin Zielke has signed the United Nations WFPs for Commerzbank. The Bank is thus sending out a signal to strengthen women in the company and has committed itself to promoting gender equality. The WEPs are the first global initiative to specifically address the empowerment of women in enterprises through seven principles. more

Panel discussion on the "Action Plan Inclusion" (2 July 2018)

On the occasion of the publication of the "Action Plan Inclusion", Commerzbank invited to a panel discussion in its representative office in Berlin. Kerstin Griese, State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, and Olaf Guttzeit, Board Member of UnternehmensForum e.V., discussed the importance of inclusion and the commitment of companies with Jenny Friese, Divisional Board Member in Commerzbank's Private Customers segment and Florian Boland, Chairman of Commerzbank's IDEAL employee network. Commerzbank was the first bank in Germany to establish guidelines in its "Action Plan Inclusion", which contain concrete goals, measures and projects for employees. These should benefit the more than 1,700 employees with disabilities or equivalent circumstances as well as customers. more

Commerzbank again awarded as enterprise with particular emphasis on family and life-phase conscious personnel policy (2 July 2018)

Commerzbank has again been awarded the "Career and Family" certificate. The Board of Trustees of berufundfamilie Service GmbH thus acknowledges the years-long commitment to a family and life-phase conscious personnel policy. The Bank has received the certificate, which the Hertie Foundation bestows together with berufundfamilie Service GmbH, for its nationwide childcare services, its flexible working time models, offers for relatives who provide long-term care, and activities which foster the inclusion of people with disabilities.more

Report on sustainable progress (28 June 2018)

Commerzbank presents the report on its sustainability performance for 2017 in accordance with the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI Report 2017). For the first time, we are following the new GRI standards. When selecting topics, the sector-specific information for financial service providers was also taken into account in the chapter on Sustainable Finance. Here we report on how Commerzbank can contribute to sustainable development in its core business. more

Nominated for the German Sustainability Award (27 June 2018)

Commerzbank has been nominated for the 11th Deutschen Nachhaltigkeitspreis (German Sustainability Award) for Companies. The award is presented by the foundation Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis in cooperation with the Federal Government, municipal umbrella organizations, business associations, civil society organizations and research institutions. The German Sustainability Award identifies the most sustainable companies in Germany in three size categories. The announcement of the winners and the award ceremony will take place in December 2018. more

Annual General Meeting’s CO2-emissions compensated (21 June 2018)

The carbon dioxide emissions of the Commerzbank 2017 General Meeting in the amount of 217 tonnes were balanced by the purchase of certificates of climate protection projects (previous year: 247 tonnes). With its climate strategy Commerzbank has set an ambitious goal for the reduction of CO2 emissions. Unavoidable emissions are compensated for through the acquisition of high-quality CO2 certificates. more

Shortlist for ZukunftsGut, Germany's first award for institutional cultural mediation (7 June 2018)

The nominees have been selected. One of the following three institutions will be the winner of the award for institutional cultural mediation in Germany, endowed with 50,000 euros: Historisches Museum Frankfurt (Historical Museum Frankfurt), Staatsschauspiel Dresden (State Playhouse Dresden) or Theater Oberhausen (Oberhausen Theatre). ZukunftsGut is initiated by the Commerzbank Foundation. The award, first announced in the European Cultural Heritage Year 2018, is aimed at public, private and non-profit cultural institutions from all over Germany that focus their mediation work on at least one of the main topics of fine arts, music, literature, performing arts or cultural history. The final decision on the winner will be made in Frankfurt am Main on September 12, 2018.

German Action Days: Sustainability (6 June 2018)

The German Action Days: Sustainability - organised by the Council for Sustainable Development and European Sustainability Week – took place from 30 May to 5 June 2018. Commerzbank was participating in the Action Days this year with a film-screening in order to provide thought-provoking impulses with regard to topic of sustainability. The documentary film "A Plastic Ocean" invited those interested to learn more about the impact of global plastic consumption.

Commerzbank publishes action plan for inclusion (5 June 2018)

Commerzbank is the first bank in Germany to publish an "action plan for inclusion". Thus, Commerzbank undertakes to implement numerous measures and projects to improve the situation of employees with disabilities by 2023. The action plan is based on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of 2009. It aims to break down mental barriers and create an organizational basis for the successful cooperation between disabled and non-disabled people.

Culture of Integrity Award (18 May 2018)

In spite of his initial resistance, two employees of our branch in Darmstadt persisted and prevented a corporate client from being the victim of a "CIO fraud". Thus, they impeded a damage of around one million euros for him. For this achievement, the sales assistant and the customer advisor have received the Commerzbank Culture of Integrity Award 2017 as praise and recognition for exemplary behavior in everyday life. The jury stated that this case was characterized by commitment, courage and consequent action against resistance. more

New framework on environmental and social risks (9 April 2018)

Commerzbank has defined a framework for handling environmental and social risks in its core business. It explains the bank's internal management of these risks and contains general exclusion criteria that specify which businesses Commerzbank generally does not untertake. It also sets out Cross-sectoral requirements for protection of human rights and the concerns of indigenous peoples. For topics that are particularly vulnerable to social and environmental risks, Commerzbank has formulated sector-specific requirements. more

Lights off - Environmental awareness on (24 March 2018)

Once again Commerzbank took part in the worldwide Earth Hour. On 24 March the lights in several buildings in Frankfurt and Berlin were turned off for one hour. Far beyond these 60 minutes the initiative strives to motivate people for a more sustainable life. Commerzbank has long been active in climate protection. We have designed a climate strategy that alignes our existing activities with those we plan for the future. more

At Christmas 2017, Commerzbanker have fulfilled more than 200 children's wishes. Every Year employees organize similar Christmas projects at other Commerzbank locations nationwide. more
