We know that we can only succeed as part of an intact and cohesive societal and ecological system. That is why environment and society have long been an integral element of our corporate culture.
We promote environmental protection in our core business, for example by funding renewable energies and through emissions trading. We also systematically seek ways to reduce the resources we consume in the bank. To this end, we have implemented a group-wide, certified environmental management system. Our primary objective and a part of our overall climate strategy is to reduce CO2 emissions by 70 percent by 2020 (starting from 2007). This target was reached in 2018, two years ahead of time. Remaining greenhouse-gas emissions are being compensated for through the purchase and retirement of high-quality CO2 certificates. As such, Commerzbank AG has been working its banking operations in a climate-neutral manner since 2015 in Germany and since 2021 worldwide.
We recognize our responsibility towards the society and environment that surrounds us. By taking responsibility as a company, we follow social developments and find solutions to challenges. Commerzbank is particularly involved in the areas of education and sport. We have launched numerous projects and initiatives together with partners from politics, business and society. We engage in these cooperations because we are convinced that we can only meet current and future challenges together. Besides our engagement as a company, we also support sustainable science, culture and social affair projects through our foundations. Many of our employees also support our programs with voluntary work. The objective of our activities is a sustainable and long-term benefit for society.
